50th Anniversary Commemoration
SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION
On behalf of the Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR), we cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, April 30th, 2026, at the San José City Hall Rotunda to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, also known as “Black April.”
This will be VAR’s 14th Annual Black April Commemoration. The event will feature a stage program with inspiring performances and remarks from community leaders, interactive educational exhibits exploring immigrant and refugee issues, and the opportunity to build community as we continue to remember and reflect upon the past 5 decades of Vietnamese American sacrifices, struggles, and lasting legacies present in San José and across the United States of America.
We also invite you to please consider supporting this year’s Black April Commemoration through a financial or in-kind donation. Your support empowers our efforts to coordinate the event, which has brought together over 500 community members to immerse themselves in the history and experiences of Vietnamese Americans, uplift a lineup of intergenerational performances and performers exploring their identities, and showcase thought-provoking interactive educational exhibits. As a sponsor, your contribution, whether $5000, $1000, $1, anywhere in between, or in-kind goods and services, will ensure that all parts of our program will have the resources necessary for our team of staff and volunteers of all ages to host a successful event, free and open to the public to participate in, that our community can be proud of. Your generosity is critical to our work as a nonprofit, community-based organization to make this event meaningful and moving as it always has been.
Additional details on sponsorship levels are provided below, and we are more than happy to schedule a meeting for us to discuss further details. Please email us at hello@varoundtable.org
Thank you in advance for your consideration, and we hope to see you at this year’s event!

49th Annual Black April CommemoratioN
On April 30th, 2024, the Vietnamese American Roundtable hosted the 12th Annual Black April Commemoration, or Lễ Tưởng Niệm Tháng Tư Đen, marking the 49th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Community members and elected officials convened in the City Hall Rotunda in Downtown San Jose to reflect on the tragic events of the war.
The theme for the event was "Blooming Beyond Barriers." In our 12 years of hosting this anniversary, we dedicated special attention for the first time to the second war fought by our parents and elders upon arriving in the United States. This was not a war of bombs or trenches but rather one characterized by linguistic barriers, cultural assimilation, financial hardships, and a yearning for a home that exists only in memory.
VAR Fellows Tiana Nguyen and Megan Luong served as the emcees for the night, alongside Nguyen Pham, VAR Program Manager. The evening was adorned with poetry, dance, art exhibits, and vocal performances. As we anticipate the significant milestone of next year's 50th anniversary of Black April, we reflect on this year’s 49th Black April as an event that brought together generations to mourn the sacrifices and celebrate the triumphs of our diaspora.
A Celebration about the resilience of a community that blooms against all odds.
an evening of remembrance and hope, honoring the strength of Vietnamese American stories that continue to rise & inspire.
